Traveling to California

The “Golden State” of California has long been one of the most famous settlement spots in the United States.  After the gold rush of 1848, countless people from all over the world came rushing to this geographically diverse land in search of opportunity and prosperity, seldom went away disappointed.

With almost 100 million acres of land, California is the third largest state in the U.S., next only to Alaska and Texas.  It is nestled along the Pacific Ocean with a coastline of 1,264 miles stretching from the Oregon border in the north to the Mexican border in the south.  It is one of the most culturally diverse states in the country, with its citizens having varied ethnic backgrounds like Native American, African American, Hispanic, European, and Asian.  California climate is also one of the most diverse in the whole United States.  With four different climate zones, one could always find a region in California suitable for their taste.

NBA: Prolific Scoring

There are many professional basketball players who have many different talents, and some teams have players who specialize in the defense and others that specialize in offense. Yet there is one player who can do it all. This talented NBA player is Kobe Bryant. He is probably the best player in the entire NBA. During one game, he scored a whopping eighty-one points. This caused him to score nearly 60 % of the total score for the Los Angeles Lakers, which is an astounding percentage. Some people feel that he is merely a ball hog, and sometimes he may actually be a ball-hog, but being one isn’t a negative thing. It’s actually a positive thing because he’s doing a great deal to help his team make it to the play-offs. One pro basketball player can’t possibly win a game by himself, so obviously the entire team has to contribute, and they definitely do.

Although Kobe Bryant is an awesome player, and has scored such high amounts per game, there is another

Houston Rockets – The Early Years

The Rockets, along with the Seattle SuperSonics, entered the NBA in 1967 as an expansion team based in San Diego. They selected Pat Riley with their first draft pick in 1967. They went on to produce a then-NBA record 67-loss season.

In 1968 the Rockets won the coin toss versus the Baltimore Bullets, giving them the first overall pick in the 1968 NBA Draft. They selected Elvin “the Big E” Hayes from the University of Houston. Hayes led the team to the franchise’s first ever playoff appearance in 1969. The Rockets lost in the Western divisional semi-final to the Atlanta Hawks two games to four in a best-of-seven series.

The 1970 NBA Draft brought Calvin Murphy and Rudy Tomjanovich to the Rockets – both significant to the franchise after their playing careers were over.

Coached by Jack McMahon and Alex Hannum, the Rockets tallied a 119-209 record over their tenure in San Diego.

In 1971, real estate broker

Bill Bradley

Early life

Bradley was born on July 28, 1943 in Crystal City, Missouri, the only child of Warren, a banker, and Susan “Susie” (ne Crowe) Bradley (d. 1995), a teacher. Politicians and politics were standard dinner-table topics in Bradley’s childhood, and he described his father as a “solid Republican” who was an elector for Thomas E. Dewey in the 1948 presidential election.

He began playing basketball in fourth grade. He was a basketball star at Crystal City High School, where he scored 3,068 points in his scholastic career, and was twice named All-American. He received 75 college scholarship offers, although he applied to only five schools.

Bradley’s basketball ability was enhanced by his unusually wide peripheral vision, which he worked to improve by focusing on faraway objects while walking. During his high school years, Bradley maintained a rigorous practice schedule, a habit he carried through college. He would work on the court

Pat Riley Earns 1,200th Career Coaching Win

Last Sunday, Pat Riley became the third coach in NBA history to collect 1,200 regular season victories joining Lenny Wilkens and Don Nelson from the Golden State he only needed 1,842 games to reach the popular milestone only 248 games less than Nelson.

Riley is worthy of the recognition due to his successful career as coach, the most recent Riley’s achieve was the 2006 NBA Championship with the Miami Heat. Prior to his tenure in Miami, he served as head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks. He also played for the Los Angeles Lakers’ championship team in 1972, which brings his personal total to seven NBA titles.

Before becoming an exceptional coach, Riley was a versatile athlete in college, participating in both basketball and football; he was selected by the San Diego Rockets in 1967 NBA draft, and was also drafted as a flanker by the Dallas Cowboys in the 11th round of the 1967 NFL Draft. He joined the

Greatest Nba Team of All-time!

Greatest Nba Team of All-time!

In the fall of 1976, when I was one the cusp of my 8th birthday, I had a sports awakening.  Suddenly, the concept of professional sports became a reality to me.  The Portland Trail Blazers were (and, sadly, still are) the only major professional sports organization in the state of Oregon.  I loved to play basketball and so following the Blazers became a passion for me.  I was with them almost from training camp when they let Moses Malone go because the new coaching staff, led by Dr. Jack Ramsay, felt like he didn’t fit in with their team concept.

From the outset, the Blazers played impressively.  They started Bill Walton at center, Maurice Lucas at power forward, Bobby Gross at small forward, Lionel Hollins at shooting guard, and Dave Twardzik at the point.  Their bench consisted of veterans Larry Steele, Lloyd Neal, Corky Calhoun, and Herm Gilliam as well as young guns Wally Walker, Johnny Davis, and Robin Jones.

Walton, then in his

The Sacramento Kings Play to Be Crowned As NBA Royalty

The Sacramento Kings Play to Be Crowned As NBA Royalty

It is good to be king! You can be king of a country, king of rock and roll, king of checkers, king of a castle, king of swing, king of basketball, and king of duct tape artistry. Once you are king, you are the best of the best, the Big Kahuna, the Grand Poobah, and so on. While the Sacramento Kings have inherited a name of royalty, they hope to one day be crowned king of all the NBA: NBA Champions!

The Sacramento Kings have only played in the NBA since the 1985-1986 season. However, since 1945, they have also played as the Rochester Royals, the Cincinnati Royals, the Kansas City-Omaha Kings, and the Kansas City Kings. In 1985, the Kings earned a 37-45 record during their premiere as an NBA team. While the record was good enough to qualify for the playoffs, the Houston Rockets swept them (3-0).

How did the Kings become royalty? When the team relocated to Kansas City, it changed its name to prevent confusion. Although they were the Royals

Can’t Get No Satisfaction

Can’t Get No Satisfaction

It has been a brutal year for head coaches in the NBA, as six have already been fired within the first 25 games. There have never been this many firings this early in the season. Slow starts mean swift firing in the NBA; but why? Why are teams in the NBA going through coaches like no other? Why are teams kicking coaches out the door so quickly?

Quite frankly, it has been pretty ridiculous.

P.J. Carlesimo of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Sam Mitchell of the Toronto Raptors, Eddie Jordan of the Washington Wizards, Randy Wittman of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Reggie Theus of the Sacramento Kings, and Maurice Cheeks of the Philadelphia 76ers have all been victims of the viciousness by teams in the NBA. Unbelievably, this has all happened before Christmas, and it’s a wonder if any of these teams will actually benefit from these firings.

Carlesimo was the first of the group to get ousted, going only 1-12 in his short run as head coach of

NBA Finals Tickets ? Headed for a Rematch?

Last season the basketball world stood in shock after the Orlando Magic handled the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals and bounced LeBron James and Company in five games.  The Magic went on to face the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals, where they were unable to overcome the experience and size of the Lake Show.  Last season, most people weren’t ecstatic that <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.stubhub.com/nba-finals-tickets/”>NBA Finals tickets</a> included a Magic team that they knew little about, but things have changed in the past year.

The Orlando Magic have cruised through the first two rounds of the playoffs, winning each of their first eight contests with relative ease.  While some of that can be chalked up to the competition they’ve faced, it’s hard to argue that Orlando hasn’t looked like the cream of the crop in the East.  Regardless

The Golden State Warriors Continue to Battle Their Way Back to the NBA Finals

The Golden State Warriors Continue to Battle Their Way Back to the NBA Finals

Today, the Golden State Warriors are somewhat of an enigma. Why does their name represent an entire state? Who are the “Warriors” to which their name refers? Have they ever won an NBA championship? Like other NBA teams, the Warriors have a storied history, and one that is definitely worth telling.

Where did the name “Warriors” originate? The NBA team inherited its name from a former ABL squad, the Philadelphia Warriors.

The Warriors made their NBA debut during the 1962-1963 season, though their former name was the San Francisco Warriors. Their team featured Wilt Chamberlain, arguably one of the top NBA players of all time. Nevertheless, the Warriors watched the playoffs from home, after a disappointing 31-49 season. Interestingly, the Cow Palace was the home arena of the Warriors.

Amazingly, the Warriors achieved tremendous success in just their second NBA season in San Francisco. Thanks to a solid seven-player rotation,
